This 16th-century virgin was orphaned at 10 and became the foundress of the first teaching Order especially for poor young girls; the Ursulines. She also sought to re-evangelize families through the education of future wives and mothers.
This bishop was believed to be martyred in the early 4th century and is associated with the healing of throats. Blessing of Throats: "Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from every disease of the throat and from every other illness."

Ash Wednesday Masses are at 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Lent has a twofold theme of repentance and baptism. Catechumens are led to the sacraments of initiation and the faithful devote themselves to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter.
